Best Walk To see Greenwich Village and SOHO plus The Bowery: [2-3 hours plus eating and shopping]

Start out at the very bottom of 5th Avenue where it meets Washington Square.

Walk through the square, come out at the bottom right corner which is called MacDougal street. Just before you reach West 3rd street there is a small cafe called LaLantern with a covered in garden. http://lalanternacaffe.com/ Both the food and the wine are  exceptional.

As you cross over West 3rd street you will see Bleeker Bob’s Record shop. This is one of the original record stores from the 70’s and 80’s. A little further down west 3rd on the right is the famous Blue Note Jazz Bar. (212) 475-8592  www.bluenotejazz.com

  • Carry on down McDougal street and you will pass Cafe Regeo, which is one of the oldest and best coffe shops in the village. Further down on the right is an Italian Restaurant called Montey’s.  Classic Italian family run restaurent. makes you think that Al Pacino will come out of the back room any moment and re-enact his famous Godfather scene.

Once you hit Bleeker street turn left and walk passed all the old famous folk clubs and Blues Bars that put the village on the map in the 60’s.

At West Broadway you could decide to turn right and walk down into Soho.  It is only afew blocks to Houston street after which you will be SOuth of HOuston street. [SOHO]

You can wander around any of the smaller street such as Prince or Spring but turning left [west] on any of these will eventually bring to the Bowery.

The Bowrey was a run-down dangerous part of NY, but is now on the way up with new Galleries and Hotels and the latest new Museum called the Musem of Contempiry art.
