DON'T WASTE A MINUTE. YOU ONLY HAVE A DAY [or maybe two]
Marais in Paris - rue des Rosiers: is one of the great streets - but you can wander all over.A nice area to hang out it is near the new opera/ An area called “le Marais” now frequented by Gays but remains Paris’s nicest area in my opinion without being too touristy. Nice restaurants and cafes and not as dangerous as Chatelet

This is the chain Leon de Bruxelles http://www.leon-de-bruxelles.fr/ for Mussels and fries prices are reasonable and food is good. It is a chain so you should find a few around Paris.
Go to Odeon Metro station and walk down st germain (cathedral notre dame is not far) the places name is Le Mandarin. Not much further towards de cathedral is La coupole which was frequented by famous artists
If you go shopping to notre dame area there is a nice detour to have a bite/drink. Start at metro gobelins, go to rue mouffetard (one of the oldest streets in paris) go all the way up there is a small piazza with a few café/brasseries that have a quaint view of the pantheon, real nice when they light up the place and serve food and drinks outside (very reasonable cause it is the Sorbonne ghetto). You can then keep walking to Luxembourg gardens and then on to st germain/notre dame all in all a 1 hour walk at a slow pace.
A really good sandwich if you are near the arc de triumph is Pomme de Pain, again a chain but a great way to snack especially in an area so expensive. But if you feel like splurging. Fouquet’s is good, they might still have Jazz brunch on Sundays
